We’re coming down with a heavy hitter in the Afrobeats scene: DJ Deemaks!
He will be joined by Toronto veteran Sean Sax and Mr. Toure (Qualite De Luxe) as well as another Montreal guest DJ. Together they will chop it down and stir it up to create very special edition of the GUMBO mix. It’s carnival season from Brazil to New Orleans to Trinidad so get ready for bachannal!
About GUMBO
The Gumbo as it is known in Louisiana is made in different ways. It is called Okro soup in Nigeria, Callalo in Trinidad and Quimbombo in Cuba. Since Wan and Chi started the GUMBO music series, it has traveled from Toronto to New Orleans to Montreal. It’s a combination of sounds that overlap, blend and clash to create a delectable music palate. Now going on its 9th edition. GUMBO has quickly gained notoriety as a sweaty dancey sure thing wherever and whenever it touches down.
GUMBO is the link between Afrobeats and Soca that intersects with Reggae/Dancehall and overlaps with Soukous, Kompa, Baille Funk and Afro House, with a mix of Soul, Hip-Hop and R&B. They feed off each other and they feed us. Just Imagine Black Coffee + Shabba Ranks + Machel Montano + WizKid + Timbaland/Neptunes all up in the sound system and you get a GUMBO party.
